報(bào)告人簡介：Graham教授現(xiàn)為美國堪薩斯大學(xué)杰出教授（Distinguished Professor），博士生導(dǎo)師，在美國常青藤學(xué)校康奈爾大學(xué)獲得博士學(xué)位，美國哈佛大學(xué)（Harvard University)的高級(jí)訪問學(xué)者，History of Black Writing項(xiàng)目負(fù)責(zé)人，創(chuàng)始人之一。Langston Hughes Poetry Project創(chuàng)始人及負(fù)責(zé)人。

研究方向：十九世紀(jì)美國文學(xué)，黑人文學(xué)，傳記文學(xué)等

研究成果：Graham教授的主要著作10余部，包括The House Where My Soul Lives: The Life of Margaret Walker(牛津大學(xué)出版社，2012)，The Complete Poems of Frances E. W. Harper: An Annotated Critical History(牛津大學(xué)出版社，1988)； Cambridge History of African American Literature(劍橋大學(xué)出版社，2011)，Cambridge Companion to the African American Novel(劍橋大學(xué)出版社，2004)，以及Conversations with Margaret Walker(密西西比大學(xué)出版社，2002)，Teaching African American Literature：Theory and Practice(1998)等，發(fā)表論文37篇，獲得13項(xiàng)美國社會(huì)科學(xué)基金，5項(xiàng)福特基金，以及11項(xiàng)地區(qū)獎(jiǎng)項(xiàng)。

報(bào)告內(nèi)容簡介：

American Ethnic Literature, once seen as a marginal or “outsider” literature, has often played the role of a mirror, reflecting the historical, socio-political and cultural context of immigrants to the United States of America. Depending upon whether they were voluntary or involuntary immigrants, enslaved or free, the producers of this literature could be ignored or celebrated. Ethnic literature that told of the struggle to become American, to achieve citizenship, to speak English, used a success story model.

Rather than follow the success story model, contemporary American ethnic literature writes about the failure of Americanization, questioning its assumptions and inequities from within. Steeped in rich and vibrant language, this is a literature that has revitalized English, creating a diverse language field that reflect different semantic patterns, dictions, and linguistic formations. In this talk, I will provide examples from African American, Latino and Chinese American literature Literatures that create what I call the new languages of fiction.
